The Virtual University, Pakistan’s first University based completely on modern Information and Communication Technologies, was established by the Government as a public sector, not-for-profit institution with a clear mission: to provide extremely affordable world class education to aspiring students all over the country.

Using free-to-air satellite television broadcasts and the Internet, the Virtual University allows students to follow its rigorous programs regardless of their physical locations. It thus aims at alleviating the lack of capacity in the existing universities while simultaneously tackling the acute shortage of qualified professors in the country. By identifying the top Professors of the country, regardless of their institutional affiliations, and requesting them to develop and deliver hand-crafted courses, the Virtual University aims at providing the very best courses to not only its own students but also to students of all other universities in the country.

Abstract

Recent interest in nanomedicine is justified, as synthetic antioxidants and antibiotics suffer from several drawbacks. These nanomedicines have been shown to possess health promoting properties, and they exert no selective physiological pressure on the pathogens that can result in development of drug resistance. Tetracycline stabilized gold nanoparticles (Tet-Au(0) NPs) were combined by using chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) with the assistance of tetracycline by using a facile method. The Tet-Au(0) NPs were observed by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, which inveterate the formation of gold nanoparticles by stimulating the characteristic surface Plasmon absorption maxima at 515 nm. While the confirmation of bonding of specific tetracycline with gold metal exhibited, the formation of gold nanoparticles was verified by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) confirmed the crystalline nature of synthesized Au (0) NPs. The standard condition employed for the optimization of this experiment. The effects of Tet-Au(0) NPs were checked on Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium). Well diffusion method was used to check the antibacterial activity on S. typhimurium, and inhibition zone was measured in mm to check capability of the Tet-Au(0) NPs. The results were compared with standard tetracycline and gold ions. The antibacterial results revealed that newly synthesized (Tet-Ag(0) NPs) had a great remarkable activity against Salmonella typhimurium. These findings could pave the way for finding the changing behavior associated with other antibiotics after capping AuNPs or other metal nanoparticles and may be used against other resistant strains.
